The Basketball Jones: Ep. 451: Game 1

Looks like Tas was right that the story was Kobe, even if it wasn't the story of Kobe dishing to Gasol.
  • seanintheoc · 5 months ago
Tas said, "Kobe would be the Xfactor," in his usual factual way. JE shook his head, "Xfactor WTF! you can't make KB24 the Xfactor, the Xfactor is Lamar in this series." Tas was like "Nope it's Kobe." Great exchange.

The earth is flat says Tas with certainty..."What! The earth is not flat,it's round," says JE. "Nope it's flat," says Tas.

Tas' factual bs is utter brilliance!

But Shaq did win a championship without Kobe. (2006 NBA Finals)
  • J.E. Skeets · 5 months ago
Brain fart. Kobe said something along the lines of Shaq wouldn't have won any of those three LA rings without him either.
  • Nick L. · 5 months ago
He also said neither of them would have won without their other teammates. His larger point was just that it's more than one or two guys.

It's awesome that he also said there is no way to actually say who the best player of all time is. I always think those are stupid arguments. Larry Bird, MJ, Magic, Wilt, Shaq, Russell, Kobe, Paul Pierce how can we really split hairs to say who is better than who.
  • seanintheoc · 5 months ago
Nick it sounds like you heard KB24 talk about Bird, I'd never heard that take before myself. I hated the Birdman, then I woke up from my C's hate stupor and appreciated him well after he retired. All time starting 5: Magic, KB24, Bird, TDuncan, KAJ.

Paul Pierce had a great season last year, a great Finals series especially, he's a great clutch shooter. Dude acts like he got shot again anytime he makes contact, that pisses me off, but he's a very good player. He's not even top 50, let alone best of all time. I'd have to go thru the list, but I can't see him as a top 50.

No way he's in the best player of all time conversation Nick.
  • Matt D · 5 months ago
There is one very odd man out there Nick.
  • Nick L. · 5 months ago
Matt, I know it's tempting to leave Kobe out of the conversation given the way Pierce shut him down in the second half of game 4 of the finals last year (something that would not have happened to MJ), but I really think he needs to be included for now.
  • seanintheoc · 5 months ago
Nick Pierce c'mon man, I dare you to ask that question to the Jones. I doubt he'd even make top 50. He's a very good player a clutch shooter, and knows how to make contact better than most.
  • Nick L. · 5 months ago
I know I know I know..I always like to "stir the pot". I thought I'd get some more volatile angry reactions to that. I'll openly admit that Pierce is not one of the greatest, and that he is not anywhere near Kobe. But, he is the man, and I do think he's very underrated....there weren't many guys that had a better season than him in 06, but the only night he got any facetime on national tv was the night he and kobe each went for 40.

roundball rock! oh thank you...thats what we need to hear.
  • DroubleDibble · 5 months ago
Shaq just cannot stop himself from trying to grab the limelight. I dread to think what he'll do after retiring...

all the Laker fans know that a big contract is going to one, Odom or Ariza. It's just nobody wants to talk about it because it's too painful to think it. Lakers are already over the cap. however, i won't be surprised if Jerry Buss keeps both of them. Somebody will offer Ariza a huge contract. Remember, Warriors gave Ronny Turiaf 4 yrs. $17 mil.
  • seanintheoc · 5 months ago
If it's either or, I'd rather have Ariza as a Laker fan. Lamar is great, but he's 30, he pumps candy down like it's about to become extinct, he is just now getting what his role is and making his mark in games, and Ariza already has it down year 2. Yeah, the Lakers would give up the length and the versatility, but they can use that money to get a damn' PG, which is a bigger issue.
  • juniortimes24 · 5 months ago
i agree on Ariza. he is the #1 Laker free agent to worry about. Odom said he's willing to take less $ to stay in LA. I'm curious how much less though. of course that's something to worry about in the summer

Ron Artest and Tyrese did indeed go to the game together. Check out Ron's tweet:
